Dear orgs, please stop using AI

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like every time I check the newest posts from the many advocacy-type organization accounts I follow that multiple of them have artificial intelligence generated audio, video, or images attached to them; specifically with the audio selection on posts. We need to be done with the weird liberatory AI "songs", AI LEGO animations, lazy AI graphics, and things that could be done easily by a professional with photoshop. Dear orgs, please stop using AI.

I'm not going to rehash all the reasons why AI audio and images aren't good for the world in depth, I'm sure it's beat to death for everyone by now. Some of the concerns are the environmental, land, pollution, economic, job, creative, and brain-outsourcing impacts. Being an advocacy group, I think I can say with confidence that you and the people apart of you generally already aren't supportive of AI.

Using AI hurts your credibility as an organization. When you do use AI in a post, to me that says you don't actually care about what you're doing. You just searched the Instagram audios for something that vaguely matched your post and lazily clicked the first one you saw. If we can't trust you to do something as simple putting in more than 10 seconds on finding an audio for a post, how can trust you with anything else?

Generally on social media, I block any and all accounts that I use that use AI in pretty much any way. To me, the use of AI shows that you don't care about what you're doing on your account and/or you're just doing it for a profit. So when an org uses AI, that's what I take away. If I unfollowed and blocked every advocacy account I follow for the same things I block other accounts for, I'd need to block all of them.

What groups come to mind when you think of who uses AI imagery, audio, and video? For me, I think of companies replacing their artists. I think of Donald Trump's weird Truth Social posts, like that time he posted an image that was definitely him as a doctor. I think of AI slop, like Fruit Love Island. I think of the companies behind the AI and their evils. When you use AI, you're aligning themselves with all of that.

I understand that you probably aren't seeking it out. I'm sure if it was easy that you would pick to never use AI again. The annoying thing is is that it isn't. You'll need to make sure that what you're sharing is AI. If you can't confirm that something for certain isn't AI, don't use it. Find something else. There's no easy way to tell if something is AI, especially considering that the tech is always changing and evolving. Some people seem to "just know" while others can't tell. Please try.
